Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - The Hotel on Acid

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOmtVFQ3WF8

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is about journalist Roaul Duke and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo, as they arrive in Las Vegas in 1971 to report on the Mint 400 motorcycle race for an unnamed magazine but they both end up taking a lot off drugs throughout the film and we see all the crazy things that they get up to because of it. The film includes some animation when the characters are tripping to create the sense that they are high and seeing things.

There is use of diegetic sound in this clip as we hear the music being played in the hotel and bar that they are in. When they pull up at the beginning, the music that is played is quite a well known song and we can tell that because of the music and the lighting behind him, that they are defiantly at some kind of casino. As he stands in line at the hotel, the music fades and we hear the sound of coins falling out of machines in the casino. Then we hear a man on the phone and the camera changes to first person as Roaul looks at the mans legs and the floor because he starts tripping and sees the floor moving and the patterns on the floor start going up the mans legs and up the walls, the sound changes durning this, the mans voice starts to echo and there is a mysterious echo/whirring sound. This is also and example of synchronous sound as we hear lots of sounds at the same time. He then goes up to the desk and tries to act normal but ends up shouting at the woman and is acting very weird which again shows that he is high. The woman at the desk is talking then suddenly we see her head turn into some kind of monster as it reaches out for him and creates a spooky deep hissing sound and this is an example of emotional realism and conversational dialogue. When they arrive at the bar there is an old classical song on and this builds to the mystery and craziness of the trip as we hear all the laughing and screaming in the background. Again when he sits down he looks at the floor and a liquid muck starts spreading across the floor and makes a weird bubbling sound as it spreads more and more. Finally we hear a twinkling sound at the end as he looks down the bar to see that his attorney has disappeared. We hear all of the thoughts in his head and see all the hallucinations that he sees which is dramatic dialogue. All of these sounds really help show that Road is tripping badly.

The mood of the scene is quite mysterious as he is tripping hard and we see his hallucinations but its also quite amusing at the same time as it is a comedy film. This scene its also quite naturalistic as its set in 1971 and back then people would dress the way they are dressed in the film and people would smoke everywhere and there would be a lot of drugs and people where less careful and did not care as  much as they do now.

What We Started - How a 17 year old became the face of dance music

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S48U0fDIh2I

The documentary chronicles three decades of dance music by focusing of the legendary careers of Carl Cox and Martin Garrix. Other features in this are Erick Morillo, Steve Angello, Tiesto, David Guetta, Usher, Afrojack and Ed Sheehan. The film shows us interviews from these artists and they tell us there stories from the past and the present with music. There is a lot of dance history shown in this documentary.

The use of non diegetic sound helps to make the scene sound more serious and makes what Martin is saying sound more serious. We hear a synthesised sound that builds up to Seth Troxler sounding confused, surprised and almost a bit mad that a 17 year old is the face of dance music. The mood of the clip is serious as we see Martin getting ready for the biggest show of his life and he is scared. We hear that he has done what legends such as David Guetta and Steve Angello have done in 10 years which is a pretty crazy thing. We also see two artists that don't agree with him being as famous as he is. We see that emotional realism is used as at the beginning the music is quite slow and deep which helps to create the mood of how Martin is feeling. The use of conversational dialogue is used as we see the conversation between Martin, David and Steve. The live location sound is used when he hear the fireworks when Martin is walking around the front of the stage.

Guardians of the Galaxy - Opening Credit Scene

This film is about a space adventurer called Peter Quill and he steals an old which belongs to a powerful villain called Ronan. He teams up with Rocket, Groot, Gamora and Drax they discover the power that the orb holds and the threat that it poses. They have to fight to save the universe.

There is use of diegetic and non diegetic sound and we see this because we hear the mysterious sounds from space and the noises that the little animals make, also there are smaller sounds like the sound of water splashing and the sound of things on the floor being kicked around. The non diegetic sound is the upbeat music that Peter plays through his headphones and the mysterious music that is played in the background at the beginning. The mood starts off as quite serious and intense as Peter lands on a planet that has been run down and abandoned but when he puts his music on it becomes up beat and joyful as he dances around to a old and up beat song. The sounds and music that we hear shows us that the is not naturalistic as he us up in space and there are weird alien/animal creatures running around. Also the sound of the device that he uses at the beginning is quite futuristic and the music that goes with it sounds quite serious and is quite often heard in futuristic/sifi films. There is no dialogue in this scene as the only character that we see is Peter and he does not say anything.
